Scholarships for Dwarf Students

Dwarf Scholarships

Dwarfism is a condition that affects over 1.5 million people in the U.S. alone, and there are over 100 different types of dwarfism.  Most Little People are born to families with no history of dwarfism.  While nothing wrong except being a little short, dwarfs also know as The Little People become victims of social negligence.  But if you carefully look at it, they are as capable as anyone else.  To encourage dwarf students and help them financially, several organizations have scholarships.  Below is a discussion of few of them:

Little People of America Scholarship

Little People of America (LPA) is a nonprofit organization that provides support and information to people of short stature and their families. They have a scholarship for dwarf students to attend a college. Awards can range from $250 to $1000 (sometimes more). Scholarships are given, in order of preference to:

  • members of LPA who have a medically diagnosed form of dwarfism
  • immediate family members of dwarfs who are also paid members of LPA
  • people with dwarfism who are not members of LPA
  • disabled students in general
  • non-disabled students who can demonstrate a need for financial educational assistance

Billy Barty Scholarship

Name after Billy Barty who himself was a dwarf, The Billy Barty Foundation has a scholarship fund to help promising college students who have a medical form of dwarfism.
