Scholarships for Students with Cystic Fibrosis
According to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that can lead to life-threatening lung infections and effect a person's digestive system. Such a disease can be not only physically but mentally draining. To encourage students with Cystic Fibrosis, several organizations have created scholarships. Below is a discussion of the few of them:
Cystic Fibrosis Scholarship Foundation
CFSF helps young adults with CF to further their education at a college or vocational school through various schoalrship programs. Scholarships are awarded based on educational achievement, leadership, and financial need as submitted by the student in the scholarship application form.
The SolvayCARES Scholarship is to help young adults with cystic fibrosis pursue goals of post-high school education. Started by Solvay Pharmaceuticals, the scholarship awards participating students with a $2,500 award. One of these students gets the Thriving Student Achiever award of $10,000 in place of the standard $2,500 award. To learn more about the scholarship you can go to the foundation website.
